Are you new to gaming? Do you want to know where to start and get good at it in the New Year?
Well, that is what we’re here to help with! The gaming world can be slightly confusing especially if you are new to games but don’t worry, you will be a pro in no time and developments on the mobile market make things even a lot easier and better!
We were all noobs (newbies) at one point so don’t stress yourself about it! Later on, I’ll tell you why maybe getting started on a console is better than on a PC, but once you’ve mastered that, the PC will be the logical next step. The following video explains it all:
What Platform Should I start On?
Choosing a gaming platform can be really tedious especially if you have no clue about gaming. Personally, I would say to either start on a PlayStation or an Xbox as they are easier to grasp in my opinion or use your mobile device to get started. The keyboard and mouse on a PC can be very confusing and a bit overwhelming for a new gamer unless its point and click games but for games with a lot of movement, camera movement, interactions, they keyboard can definitely be a little too much.
Yes, you can play on PC with a controller but I personally feel that a controller doesn’t work as good on PC as the good old keyboard and mouse!
What Games Should I Choose?
Well, that all depends on you! what are you interested in?
Do you like sports? Do you like simulation? Do you like adventure or shooters? I can’t tell you what to choose because I can guarantee I have different interests than you do.
Pick something you like and try it out, most games today offer in-depth tutorials on how to proceed in the game and offer a lot of help as well as amazing free mobile games for new gamers so you don’t get left on your own to figure everything out.
Some games I highly recommend though are:
- GTA V – It’s a game you can just toy with rather than try to “win”
- Lego games – Yep there are Lego games and they are fun and a great way to be introduced into the action-adventure genre
- Minecraft – It’s just simple, you explore and create!
- Stanley Parable – You just walk and make decisions, that’s it! or… is it ;)?
- The Walking Dead – An interactive story and decision making-based game. You have to make decisions and “survive” the zombie apocalypse.
Should I Go Straight To Online Play?
No. If you are new to games then don’t dive straight into online play, play through the story modes and stick to offline play until you get a feel for the game and an understanding of what you are doing before diving in to online play, now you won’t be an expert on the game after this but you will have a rough idea of what you are doing. Don’t expect to go into online play and do well in every game straight away, gaming is like everything else, it takes practice and if you want to be successful at, for example, Der Eisendrache (How to get the Void Bow), you’ll need some time!
What If I Still Struggle With The Game After Tutorials?
As I said, gaming is like everything else it takes practice! you won’t get good at games overnight a lot of gamers have been playing for years like me for example, I have been playing since before I could even talk! but if you find one genre of game isn’t doing it for you, try another!
It may take a while to settle into gaming and you may want to read these 24 video gaming facts. It will help you find what is good for you but keep in mind that gaming is very broad and there is something for everyone.
Is There Anything To Make My Gaming Experience Easier?
Yes, there are plenty of YouTube tutorials and guides out there that can majorly break a game down and help you with it and there are even accessories available to make your gaming experience more pleasurable and help you out.
- Scuf Controllers – controllers that have been modded to tailor to your needs
- Squid Grips – covers for your controller that provide extra comfort and grip.
- Kontrol Freek – adjustments for your sticks that add extra height and allow more movement.
- Headsets – they’re not just for competitive online players, everyone can benefit from them
- Gaming Glasses – may seem silly but they highly help with eye strain
- HDTV/Low Lag Monitor – okay, a big fancy TV/monitor isn’t necessary but it does help if you have an HDTV or low lag monitor
- Gaming Keyboards And Mice – there are plenty that are great for gaming but only recommended if you decided to stick with a keyboard and mouse.
All of these aren’t a must have, you can have a pretty damn good gaming experience and be good at games without them, I have used them all and honestly apart from Kontrol Freek, I choose to play without them. I do have good gaming monitors and gaming keyboard and mice but they all came later down the line. The only thing apart from Kontrol Freek that I consistently play with is my Turtle Beach headset which I LOVE!
Truly Though, Should I Play Video Games?
YES, YES, YES! though the “horror” stories you hear are true about the kids screaming abuse, hackers, etc they are very few and far between, also despite the popular stereotypes that revolve around gaming, games are sociable, inclusive with large communities and an array of amazing events.
Gaming has come a long way in the past 10-15 years (check out Dragon Ball Xenoverse) and offers something for everyone, not just prepubescent children screaming abuse down a headset. In video games, you can travel all around the world, to different planets, to different worlds and get lost in the experience and find hours of entertainment and joy and gaming has been proved to be a good stress relief method.
It also had some good benefits to it also, it has been proved to improve hand-eye coordination, improve cognitive flexibility, improved decision making and even improve vision! Take also a look at this post about the ten hardest game achievements. Amazing!
Some people argue that gaming is a waste of time but if you are willing to sit around watching tv for 3-5 hours a day, keeping up with celebrity gossip, browsing Twitter, Facebook and other social media for hours on end then how can something like gaming be a waste of time?
And that is it! you are ready to head off into the gaming world. Have fun 🙂
